Getting frustrated not knowing enough Korean? Interested in trying to improve your language skills while living in Korea? Tired of being the teacher and no longer being a student?!

Guess what? You can take Korean language classes at the YMCA! Korean class is a great way to meet other foreigners who are living and working in Daegu.

The Y offers classes for all levels, even super-beginners who are just learning the Korean alphabet characters. Instructors use the new, updated Korean course for English learners from Seoul National University. (The textbook even has pictures… Imagine that!)

Awesome Korean teachers teach all the classes! You’ll learn basic grammar, as well as some handy conversational bits to help you while you’re out and about in the “real world.”

Interested in also getting some cultural learning and experience in? The YMCA also offers culture classes throughout the seasons that are free to language students as part of your term tuition! Take a cooking class or a Korean art class one evening. Get a little exercise in by taking a traditional Korean dance class. Experience something new!

-YMCA Korean Fall Course-

This is for students who want to master Korean in a short period of time. The classes are held 2 times per week and is taught in fast pace. This course focuses more on grammar based speaking to enhance preciseness and fluency. The Intensive course will suit those who are willing to put their time and effort in learning Korean.

Mon & Thurs Intensive course
Time: September 4 ~ October 30, (15 classes) 7:00-9:00pm
Tue & Fri Intensive course
Time: September 12 ~ November 4, (15 classes) 10:30am-12:30pm
Tuition fee: 180,000won

Four language skills are cohesively integrated into the course curriculum. Each class is taught by 2 instructors and is held 1 time per week. Compared to Intensive course, the Regular courses concentrate more on Speaking skill by putting more time into practice and review speaking in Korean.

Tuesday Regular course
Time: October 7-December 23(12classes) 7:00pm-9:00pm
Saturday Regular course
Time: October 11 -December 27(12classes) 11am-1:00pm
Tuition Fee: 150,000won

03. Everyday Survival Korean
Improving speaking skills focused on practical conversations and expression. Students will go out t some places for practice (restaurants, stores etc.)

Time: September 17 -October 29(Wed,6classes) 6:30pm-8:30pm
Tuition Fee: 60,000won

04. TOPIK Preparation

Time: September 13-November 22(Sat,10classes) 2pm-3:50pm
Tuition Fee: 100,000 won

-YMCA Korean Culture Class-

01. Korean Art

It is an opportunity to learn how to draw Korean traditional paintings. Minwha, which would be specifically focused on this class, is what Koreans used to draw about Falk tales and the lives of middle and lower classes. (Art materials cost  55,000 won separately)

Time: Oct 15~ Dec 10, Wednesdays (9 classes) 6:30 ~ 8:30

02. Korean Traditional Cooking

You can learn how to cook Korean food in this class. Foods that are representative of Korean foods are selected  for this class.

Time: Sept 13 (Sat) Korean short-rib stew 1:30 ~3:00 pm
Oct 14 (Tues) Bulgogi  5:30 ~ 7:00 pm
Oct 21 (Tues) Gimbap  5:30 ~7:00 pm
Oct 25  (Sat) Seafood kalguksu 1:30 ~ 3:00 pm
Nov 1  (Sat) Bibimbap 1:30 ~3:00 pm
Nov 17 (Mon) Seafood pajeon 5:30 ~ 7:00 pm
Nov 24 (Mon) Soft tofu stew 5:30 ~ 7:00 pm

03. Korean Traditional Dance

You can learn basic steps and movements of Korean traditional Dance in this class. You will dance with Korean traditional music  such as Arirang. Comfortable clothes are needed to attend this class.

Time: Sept 15 ~ Nov 3 Mondays (8 classes) 5:30 ~ 7:00

04. Korean short bamboo flute

It is an opportunity to learn how to play Korean short bamboo flute. It is similar with recorder but it has its own sounds and melody.  The instruments cost 10,000 won and you can keep your own.

Time: Oct 28 ~ Dec 16 Tuesdays (8 classes) 6:30 ~ 8:00 pm
