Travel to the Korean Morden Times : HyangChon Cultural Center

If you want to know about history of Daegu, the best answer is going to Hyangchon Cultural Center. The cultural center is located at the place of old Sunnam Commercial Bank, which was the first private bank of Daegu. 




Sunnam Commercial Bank was established by a Japanese Ogura Takenosuke in 1912. After merger with Josen commercial bank, it operated as Daegu Branch of Korea Commercial Bank.



In 2014, the building was renovated as an exhibition and cultural center to preserve the original central area of Daegu. There are lots of Exhibitions which you would interested in. 



Permanent exhibition recreates the past of Daegu. At ground Floor, you can see a realistic model presenting a scene of the central district in 1960s. 

There are bakeries, accommodations, coffee shops, jewellery shops and tailor shops, as well as financial institutions. So, you would feel like riding time machine! 



At first floor, It introduces pictures of cultural artists who have memories of Hyangchondong and our negibors who actually live in Hyangchondong. 

Also, Selecting 100 residents who experienced or remembered the history of the center of Daegu, this section allows visitors to have time to revise past history through life of our neighbors buried in the history of turbulence. 



At first basement floor, The exhibition room allows visitors to enjoy classical music by reconstructing Nokhyang, the oldest music listening hall in Korea, as a space containing weight of time.

The cultural center provides reservation service for group visit (more than 20 people) and foreigners. You can make an online reservation in one week before visiting through the site (http://goo.gl/fc0xFP). Just select the date and time! 

And if you want to be provided with English explanation, you need to put ’English explanation’ in the application form. The explanation is available at 11:00, 14:00 and 16:00.

Hyangchon Cultural Center can be easily accessed by public transportation as it is located in a dedicated public transportation district.
