Yi Kwae Dae, Korean Artist who lived in the time of change

With Baek Namjun, Yi Kwae Dae is the one of the most popular Korean artists who represent 20th century Korean arts. Now, The exhibition about his life and works was held at the National Museum of Contemporary Art located in Seoul. And It will continue until November 1th.

◆Who is Yi Kwae Dae

In 1913, Yi Kwae Dae was born at Chilgok, Daegu and grew in a wealthy family. He went to Japan to study art. He found his own individual style. On the basis of the unique style, Yi Kwae Dae created many masterpieces expressing that time and culture. 




That time (1910s~1950s) was the time of change. Because It included Japanese colonial era, Independence and the Korean War. Through his work, he tried expressing various aspect of Korea.
