The 56th Anniversary of April 19 Revolution
Today is a very meaningful day for Korea as a democratic country. On April 19th, 1960 April Revolution or April 19 Movement (4.19혁명) occurred. The movement was Korea's first-ever democratic uprising against the government. South Korea’s founding president Syngman Rhee is toppled in a nationwide pro-democracy student uprising protesting election fraud. Around 180 people died and thousands were injured in this revolution and Syngman Rhee stepped down a week later.
We sincerely pay respect to victims of pro-democracy uprising today.
