5 Ways to Celebrate the Holidays in Daegu
With the holidays in full swing, it’s easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the season. Now is the perfect time to pause and embrace the most magical time of the year. Here are five ways to make the most of the holidays in Daegu.
Write a Letter to Santa or Send a Loved One a Greeting
Let Santa know who’s been naughty or nice, or send a handwritten holiday greeting to your loved ones around the world by visiting Santa at 2.28 Memorial Park. Postcards and pens are available at the letter writing stand. Simply select a postcard, write a message, and place it in the red mailbox where it will be sent for free.
Location: #228 Memorial Park / 15 Gongpyeong-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu
Go Ice Skating Outdoors
From now until December 31, you can go ice skating al fresco at Daegu’s outdoor skating rink. Skate for just an hour (1,000 won) or spend the entire day (3,000 won) skating to trendy music beside the Sincheon River.
Location: Debec Plaza, across from the Debec department store / Along the Sincheon River by Daebong bridge.
Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire
There’s no better way to keep warm in the winter than by indulging in some hot street food. Sticks of odeng steaming in hot broth, roasted sweet potatoes, and fresh roasted chestnuts served in brown paper bags are just a few winter snacks that are worth braving the cold. Afterwards, cozy up in one of Daegu’s many cafe’s, and enjoy a holiday drink or two.
Take a (Miniature) Train Ride Through a Winter Wonderland
This winter, travel around the world without ever having to leave Daegu with a visit to the “Around the World in 80 Days” exhibit at the Hyundai Department Store. Jump aboard the Polar Express as you follow the model train on a journey to snow-capped mountains and Egyptian deserts. Keep your eyes peeled for all the miniature Santas hiding in the landscape, and don’t forget to look up!
Location: 8th floor of Hyundai Department Store
Light up Your Holidays with a Dazzling Light Display
Nobody does holiday lights quite like Korea. Here in Daegu you can gaze in wonderment as you walk through one of many elaborate outdoor holiday light displays. Some of the more popular places to view lights include E-world, Daegu Bank, and Gukchae-bosang Memorial Park. For more details on where to see Christmas lights in Daegu, click here.
