The Start of Fall Foliage at Palgongsan
Taking Friends Around Beautiful Daegu (Oct 19, 2017)
It’s that time of the year when greens will become yellows, reds and oranges. My friend from Cebu and Philippines came to visit Korea for this special time, the Autumn/Fall season, to witness this beautiful change of colors. I decided to show her around where Autumn/Fall is at itsd peak, like literally, the highest peak in Daegu, Palgonsan or Mount Palgong. We took the Palgongsan Cable Car service.
It was quite a hike going up the foot of the mountain but she had fun with the statues of the zodiac on the road.
Wow! This chicken/rooster seems familiar (sarimanok, anyone?) We were the first ones to take the cable ride and we were greeted by this elegant woman in hanbok. This life-size mannequin is so amazing!
She is excited to take her first cable ride and we were excited for her too. We can’t wait to get on so we can see the foliage.
And here it is! Welcome to Fall/Autumn foliage at Palgongsan or Mt. Palgong! Awesome! The yellow, red, and orange leaves are a sight to see! Weeee!!!
At the peak, we walked “Love Road” where she was fascinated by all the love locks. I told her about the Korean culture of expressing their promise to each other using the locks.
The Wishing Rock was an interesting experience for her too. I told her that She instead of the a wishing well where you throw coins to make your wish come true, in Korea, you have to make sure that the coin sticks to the rock and if it does, then it will come true. She made a wish. “I wish…”
Of course, we had great pictures from Palgongsan. Although, most of the mountains are still green but the spurts of yellows, reds, and oranges hold a promise that the best is yet to come. After all, this is just the start of Fall.
We enjoyed our food (kimbap, nuts, fruits, and chocolates) after savoring the magnificent view. I told her about the thriving hiking culture of Korea and the food after a hike.
I want to invite everyone to come and see the peak of the Fall foliage at the peak of Daegu, Palgongsan/Mount Palgong. Also, the Maple leaves Festival starts this week until the end of October (October 27-31, 2017). See you there! Again, welcome to Korea, Sandra and those who visit Korea for the first time! I hope you’ll enjoy the rest of the Fall season.

Along with the view from the cable car, Palgongsan Tree-lined st.(팔공산 가로수길) is also a very popular spot for foliage. Whether you drive through or walk along, you will be able to see a beautiful foliage. The below is a picture from last Friday. As you can see, the trees are turning their colors!
