Daegu Citizen Press 2017
Location number 44 on the 2017 Daegu & Daegu Vicinity Tour Stamp Trail
One of our favorite places to visit after hiking the nearby mountains is Anjirang Gopchang Alley Market. We love our gopchang and this is the place to settle down with family or friends for a nice and inexpensive meal. Here most of the restaurants offer gopchang-gui (곱창구이) as well as other dishes. They are most famous for gopchang which are the small intestines of pigs. Other items are makchang (large intestines) or assorted meats.
Interesting fact (maybe even a secret!), when ordering at most restaurants you are required to order the basic minimum of two or three portions. Here that is not the case. So, when ordering, order one serving at a time. The current cost is 12,000KRW for 500 grams. The gopchang is served with several pieces of rice cake (Duk) or sliced pieces of sweet potato.
Another interesting fact is that there are no chances to eat outside on the street. Searching many food articles often shows people at tables in front of the restaurants. This was stopped in 2016. It was allowed on and off since then on occasion, but it is no longer an option. We used to love stopping by on a hot summer evening and enjoying the smell of meat barbequing and happy people enjoying their meals at tables outside.
There are 40-50 restaurants in the area. I always find it interesting when I see people walking by as they head into the area, and then they walk back by a few minutes later going in the other direction only to see them again a few minutes later as they head back into the area. They are just looking for the right atmosphere, as each restaurant has a different vibe. We found the place we like more than ten years ago.
All the restaurants are open six days a week. On Sunday half of the paces are closed. This alternates by the first and second weekends each month. So, It is a good idea to ask the staff which Sundays they are open if you want to visit on Sundays.
The get there your target should be Anjirang Subway Station. Or you can copy and paste the address below into a mapping or GPS app. If going by subway take exit three. Walk down the street about 150 meters and stay to the right. This will bring you to the main entrance. If taking a bus, you will have a few options depending on the starting point in Daegu. I suggest using a mapping app and asking directions in the app. Again, I would use Anjirang station as the target.
If going by taxi, just tell the driver ANJIRANG GOL MOK. Or, Anjirang Gopchang Golmok. Golmok means alley or narrow street.
Public parking is available in three area, but in the early evening until around 9PM it can be hit or miss on availability during the weekends or holidays.
