[Coffee City_Daegu] Korea’s Best Hanok Cafés

[Coffee City_Daegu] #1 Hanok Café
Hanok-style Cafes Around Daegu

Among coffee addicts in Korea, Daegu is known as “coffee Mecca.” This is because Daegu boasts a number of local coffee shops and nationwide chain-brands such as Davinci and Hands Coffee that have their own distinctive taste of drinks. Daegu’s chains use beans that are 1 grade higher than the ones that other big chain brands use. Still, the prices are 70% cheaper. Beside the locally originated chains, there are numerous independent coffee shops that present unique experience with their quality coffee as well as interiors. Among them are hanok cafes. When you are in Korea, especially in Daegu, trying a hanok café is a must!

Mansion 5 맨션5

■Basic Information
-Address: 28, Jungang-daero 79-gil, Jung-gu, Daegu, Korea
-Address(KR): 대구 중구 중앙대로79 28
-Closest Subway: Junganro Exit 1
-Phone: 053-421-1225
-Hours: Everyday 10:30 - 24:00
-English speaking staff: Not really, but they know the menu.
-3 most popular menu items: Salads, Club Sandwich, Mansion 5 Brunch

■More Info
-Menu I ordered: We ordered the Mansion5 Brunch and the Shrimp Rose Pane Pasta.

-Food: The Mansion 5 brunch looked and tasted great! It was definitely towards the Korean end of the spectrum as far as brunches go, though. Don’t expect it to taste like back home and you won’t be disappointed. I will try the Eggs Benedict next time though for sure!. The Rose Pane was actually really, really good. The bread that they use for the bread bowl is absolutely amazing. They must make it in house or get it from a local bakery because I’ve ordered a lot of Pane style pastas in Korea and this one was the best I’ve had so far. They also give plenty of sauce to use your bread with. I would totally order both of these again, especially the Pane!
-Vibe: The vibe was laid back and relaxed. A lot of people in casual conversation with only a couple of people sitting alone or on the phone.

-5 interesting/distinctive facts about the place:
1. They serve beer here.
2. This café is BEAUTIFUL. What a great place to escape from the city!
3. They have a great food menu as well as drinks. Everything from breads to full meals is available.
4. There’s a lot of seating available. Inside, outside, even on the second floor!
5. They also have wine.
-What you like about the place: I like everything about this place, from the food to the atmosphere. I would gladly come here every day.
-What you hope the place to improve on: I would like it if they had smaller menus on the tables. The menu here is cool, but it’s on a chalkboard next to the counter. With this many menu options it would be nice to sit down for a second and fully look over the menu.

-Drink: The drink has three layers: Matcha, milk, and then espresso. The drink was extremely rich and sweet. It would make a perfect after dinner drink.
-Vibe: Although it was a Saturday, the atmosphere was open and relaxed. There were mostly couples with a few small groups studying or doing other related work on their laptops. The staff were especially helpful and friendly. They were able to answer all of my questions about the menu items and help make recommendations based on my interests.
