[Food] Taste DAEGU, the 3rd story – Mungtigi

The 3rd story of Daegu’s representative foods – Mungtigi

Mungtigi makes such a stunning combination between tenderness and chewiness.
It’s also called Saenggogi which literally means raw beef.

The tenderness of freshly prepared raw beef with savory and spicy seasonings During the late 1950s, a flavorful recipe using raw beef was developed and named ‘’Mungtigi’’ (beef cut into thumb-sized lumps) since it uses beef shank inside the cow thigh and rump meat, which was cut into lumps. It is customarily served after being marinated in sesame oil, garlic, and powdered red pepper. Although there is a similar dish from Jeonju Province, cut into thin slices dipped in sesame oil and salt, Mungtigi is distinctive to Daegu and is also enjoyed as a side dish for soju (hard Korean alcohol). Because it is not prepared if the meat is not fresh, those dining on Mungtigi get the true taste of fresh Korean beef, which is perfect as a side dish for alcohol. It has been widely popular throughout the nation as a universal relish for alcohol. But remember you can only get real Mungtigi in Daegu.

The restaurant in Buemeo-dong was our first trial.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t get in because we didn’t make a reservation. All we could hear was “Sorry, tables are full”. T.T

The second trial!
This place was really huge with convenient parking space and located near Suseong Lake Park.

Table filled to capacity with various side dishes! Plus, you can get as many refills of them as you want! Happy~ :D

The middle size, 40,000won
Reasonable price I guess!
Meat was so fresh and the sauce was savory.

The close shot!
To enjoy the real tenderness of the food, sinew has to be removed as much as possible. Well-made Mungtigi is so tacky that when you turn over the plate the lumps stay there stuck.

Now the sauce!
It was typical type of dip containing sesame oil, garlic and red pepper powder in it.

Spine… I didn’t taste this. lol

Additional side dishes~ ^^
